About this Site

This project was funded by a Pennsylvania Department of Health Breastfeeding Mini-Grant. The purpose of this type of grant is to fund a breastfeeding promotion project in a Pennsylvania community. For more information about this mini-grant, click here.

This site was also supported by The Pennsylvania State University Center for Childhood Obesity. This center conducts research focused on the factors that contribute to the development of obesity during childhood, with a focus on early, familial contributors to food preferences, dietary patterns and health behaviors.

This site was created by Ali Ventura, a graduate student at Penn State. Ali is current working towards her Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies. She obtained two Master's degrees from PSU, one in Nutrition and another in Human Development and Family Studies. She is a part of the PSU Center for Childhood Obesity Research and one of her primary research interests is how feeding practices during the first few years of a child's life affect weight status, eating patterns and dietary preferences later in life.

Kay Hoover served as the primary consultant for this project, contributing much knowledge, expertise and advice about the content and structure of the project. Kay is a Lactation Board Certified Lactation Consultant and is an internationally renowned expert on all things lactation. Kay is a part of the Penn State Breastfeeding Clinic and has been working as a lactation consultant for over 20 years.
